Patti is a second soprano
My earliest memories of enjoying Classical music are Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, the William Tell Overture and Handel's Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks. By the time I became a teenager it was pop and soft rock music that took over, but I did learn the violin at school and joined the Reading Youth Orchestra.
Singing in choirs re-ignited my interest in Classical music especially choral music, joining my first choir some 37 years ago. Learning my soprano line and singing with other voice parts as well as my own is completely absorbing and has seen me through some challenging times in life. Highlights of my singing hobby are singing the Rachmaninov Vespers recently and backing Barry Manilow at the Nottingham Arena, many years ago.
When not singing, I enjoy concerts, which might include choral music , opera and musicals . I've loved all Monteverdi's operas and many Handel operas. My favourite musical is The Book of Morman.
Other interests I have are cooking, gardening and nature. My love of animals means I have a labradoodle dog who I walk in all weather which keeps me fit. Cooking is one of my greatest loves and has been since a child. Ironically my mum was a terrible cook, so I used to go round to the next door neighbour's on a Sunday where she'd be making jam tarts and scones. Baking is still my favourite pastime, croissants are a favourite treat to make, plus regular breadmaking. As I taught cookery and managed it as a career it's a wonder that I've never tired of it, even making my dog's treats!
